Description

The flame-retardant overall is designed for professionals who work daily in environments with risks of flame, heat, and welding spatter. The Portwest BIZ5 is made of 100% cotton (330 g/m²) and offers certified protection for welders, electricians, and workers in the petrochemical industry. The garment combines robust flame-retardant properties with wearing comfort for prolonged use.

For which sectors and working conditions is the Portwest BIZ5 flame-retardant overall suitable?

The Portwest BIZ5 is suitable for sectors where exposure to open flames, welding spatter, electric arcs, or intense heat poses a real danger, such as the metalworking industry, energy sector, and petrochemical industry.

Thanks to certification according to EN ISO 11611 Class 1 (A1+A2), the overall is approved for welding work where spatter and droplets are released. The EN ISO 11612 standard (A1+A2 B1 C1 E2 F1) confirms protection against convective and radiant heat. In addition, the garment complies with EN 61482-2 for protection against electric arcs, which also makes it suitable for maintenance work on electrical installations.

What does the ATPV value of the Portwest BIZ5 overall mean and when do you choose this model?

ATPV stands for Arc Thermal Performance Value and indicates how much energy the fabric withstands before a second-degree burn can occur. The BIZ5 has an ATPV of 11.2 cal/cm² (ASTM F1959/F1959M-12) and an ELIM of 8.3 cal/cm² (EN 61482-1-1), which offers protection against moderate arc discharge risks.

Choose this model when you work in environments with an established low to moderate arc risk and at the same time perform welding work. For higher risk classes or heavier thermal load, an overall with a higher ATPV value is recommended. The combination of multiple standards makes the BIZ5 versatile within a single work environment.

The overall is recommended to be line-dried and may be washed at a maximum of 40°C, which preserves the protective properties of the cotton for a long time.
