Blisters start with the sock

Blisters are caused by the combination of moisture and friction. A work sock that wicks moisture away and fits snugly enough not to bunch up solves both. Look for reinforcement at the heel and toe, cushioning under the forefoot and a cuff that doesn't cut into your calf.

Choose by season

For warm indoor work, a thin moisture-wicking sock; for outdoors and winter, merino wool or a wool blend that still insulates even when damp. Cotton feels soft but stays wet, which actually works against you in the cold. If you work in a freezer warehouse, also check out thermal clothing.

Veelgestelde vragen

Does a work sock really make a difference?

More than people think. A work sock wicks away moisture, sits in the shoe without bunching and has extra cushioning at the heel and ball of the foot. Blisters are almost always caused by a combination of moisture and friction, and that's exactly what a good sock counteracts.

Cotton or wool in work socks?

Cotton feels soft but stays wet once it gets damp. Merino wool and synthetic fibers wick away moisture and keep insulating even when cold and wet, which makes a big difference for outdoor work and in freezing cold. For warm indoor conditions, a thin moisture-wicking sock is the most comfortable.
