The mid-layer that does the most work
In autumn and winter, your mid-layer is what the whole season revolves around: a sweater retains warmth without costing you the freedom of movement a jacket does. A closed sweater is warmer, while a zip sweatshirt can be opened if you get warm and is easier to take off without removing your helmet or glasses. With a hoodie, pay attention to your surroundings: drawstrings and a hood are unwanted around rotating machinery.
Look at the fabric weight: around 280 grams makes a sturdy work sweater that keeps its shape even after many washes. A brushed inner lining feels softer and insulates better.
With protection
If you wear certified clothing, choose a mid-layer with the same standard; a regular cotton sweater under a flame-retardant jacket cancels out the protection. Check out the flame-retardant sweaters, high-visibility sweaters and anti-static sweaters.
