A first aid kit that matches the risks

Every company is required to be able to provide first aid. How extensive that needs to be follows from the RI&E: an office is fine with a standard kit, while a workshop with chemicals also needs eyewash and a construction site needs extra dressings for cuts and grazes. Check the contents for expiry at least once a year and restock immediately after use — a half-empty kit is the problem you only discover when things go wrong.

Safety knives reduce injuries

Cuts from standard utility knives are one of the most common workplace injuries. A safety knife with an automatically retracting blade costs a few euros more and prevents exactly that. If you work a lot with boxes and film, choose a model with a recessed blade: it cuts through the packaging material but not the hand underneath.

Is a first aid kit mandatory in the workplace?

Dutch working conditions law (Arbowet) requires employers to make effective first aid available. A first aid provision is part of that; the exact contents and scope follow from the company's risk inventory. For most workshops and construction sites, a kit stocked according to the Oranje Kruis first aid guideline is the starting point.

How often should I check the contents of a first aid kit?

At least once a year, and always immediately after use. Sterile dressings and eyewash solution have an expiry date; note the earliest date on the outside of the kit so you can see at a glance when something needs replacing.

What exactly is a safety knife?

A knife where the blade automatically springs back as soon as you release it or lift it off the material, or where the blade is recessed so you can't brush against it. Both versions significantly reduce the number of cuts compared to a standard snap-off knife.

Do you also supply loose refills?

Yes, refills and spare blades for first aid kits and safety knives can be ordered separately. That way you don't need to replace the whole kit or knife when something runs out.
