Acting fast prevents an accident
Slipping on an oil spill is one of the most common workplace accidents, and the risk is there from the first second. Make sure absorbent material has a fixed, visible spot, close to where liquids are stored or decanted. First contain the spill with an absorbent boom, then pick it up with granules or cloths.
Choosing the right type
Hydrophobic absorbents pick up oil but not water, so they also work outdoors and on wet floors. Universal absorbents pick up everything and are handy in a mixed workshop. For chemicals, choose a chemical-resistant type and dispose of the absorbed material as hazardous waste. When cleaning up, wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection.
